A metal goal that was safe when purchased can fail this test within two seasons if the protective caps split and fall off — a common outcome for goals stored outdoors through a UK winter.

3. Structural degradation

Steel and aluminium frames rust, weld joints crack, and PVC clip systems weaken over time. A goal that holds itself together visually may fail under the static load applied during a formal tip-over resistance test. Club committees rarely have access to the equipment needed to assess structural integrity below the surface, and visual inspection alone is not a reliable substitute.
