Short answer: Before you place a bulk order for portable soccer goals, verify nine things — the safety standard and the evidence behind it, anti-tip design, the documentation package, whether you're buying from a manufacturer or a trading company, warranty and parts, references, freight terms, total landed cost, and payment terms. This checklist walks through each.
We're TAY Sports (brand: Eco Walker), a manufacturer that responds to institutional purchase orders. This is the vetting we'd want a careful buyer to do — it protects you, and it sorts serious suppliers from resellers who can't answer.
1. Safety standard — and the evidence, not just the claim
Ask which standard the goals are built to. For portable soccer goals the answer should be EN 16579. Then ask for the evidence: a signed Declaration of Compliance and the test records behind it. Note that EN 16579 uses a manufacturer self-declaration route — there's no mandatory third-party certificate — so a vendor claiming a third-party "EN 16579 certificate" for a portable goal is overstating. We lay out exactly what's attested vs tested on our compliance page.
2. Anti-tip design
Goals tipping forward onto a child is the documented hazard this whole product category is regulated around. Confirm the goal includes an anti-tip anchoring system as standard, suited to your ground type (grass, turf, or hard court), and that it's covered in the compliance attestation.
3. The documentation package
For an institutional PO you'll need more than a product. Confirm the vendor can supply: W-9 or business registration, Certificate of Insurance, the compliance attestation, MSDS / material safety data, written warranty terms, and freight/returns terms. A vendor who can't produce these quickly will slow your purchasing department down at the worst moment.
4. Manufacturer or trading company?
This matters for price and for problem-solving. A manufacturer controls the build, can sign meaningful attestations, can do custom colors or logos, and can fix a quality issue at source. A trading company adds margin and forwards your questions to someone else. Ask directly: "Do you manufacture these, or resell them?" and look for specifics — factory location, years in production, capacity.
5. Warranty and replacement parts
Inflatable and portable goods take field abuse. Ask what the warranty covers, for how long, and — critically — whether replacement parts (valves, anchor kits, repair patches) are available separately. A goal you can repair for $15 beats a goal you replace for $400.
6. References or existing buyers
Ask whether they supply other institutional buyers in your category — districts, clubs, parks departments, academies — and ideally in your region. You're not asking for confidential contracts, just evidence they've done this before at your scale.
7. Freight terms and who owns the risk
Get freight terms in writing: delivered, FOB, or DDP. For container orders, confirm the destination port, who clears customs, and who's liable if a unit arrives damaged. Unclear freight terms are where "cheap" quotes quietly become expensive.
8. Total landed cost, itemized
Compare bids on delivered cost, not unit price. Ask for unit price, freight, duties (if applicable), and any setup or branding fees listed separately. A low unit price with vague freight can lose to a higher unit price with delivered terms.
9. Payment terms that match your risk
For established institutional buyers, net-30 should be available. For first orders, a deposit-plus-balance or 50/50 split is normal and reasonable — it protects both sides. Be wary of any supplier demanding 100% prepay on a large first order with no references.
The fast version
If you only have time for three questions, ask: (1) Which safety standard, and can you send the signed attestation? (2) Do you manufacture these or resell them? (3) Can you send the full documentation package and itemized landed cost? The quality and speed of those three answers tells you most of what you need.
